QUIZ NIGHT SUCCESS
Saturday 17 October saw Leigh U3A's latest quiz. Restricted to U3A members only, it attracted a healthy number of competitors, and included a fish and chip supper.
New members' garden party

Chairman and committee welcomed our new members with a get-together Garden Party in June. The event was held in Chairman Yvonne's beautiful garden and tea and cake were enjoyed in glorious sunshine. New members really appreciated the afternoon.

Good food and fun at the Old Vienna

Leigh-on-Sea U3A committee and members enjoy sampling the cuisine at the Old Vienna, the well
known Austrian-style restaurant in Leigh. The evening was very sucessful, and as a result the
committee booked the restaurant for Leigh U3A's 2009 Christmas Lunch.
Royal subject for speaker Neil

Jazz Group stalwart Neil Jaggers spoke at Leigh U3A's monthly meeting . But the subject of his talk was not jazz. A self confessed lover of HM Royal Yacht Britannia, he told of his experiences taking part in engagements aboard this famous but now retired vessel. Also speaking at the meeting were fellow Leigh U3A members Dorothy and Graham Manley, who jointly gave a fascinating talk about the people and customs of China.
Craft group members meet to hone their skills

Members of Leigh U3A's popular Craft Group put the finishing touches to some beading - and a bracelet completed by one of them. The group meets at the home of its leader, Margaret May, a Leigh U3A committee member. A variety of craft skills are pursued and perfected.

Jazz group in tune

Liz and Neil Jaggers hosted a well attended
meeting of the Leigh U3A Jazz Group at their
home on the Marine estate.
A tuneful meeting of Leigh U3A's new Jazz Group took place at the home of Liz and Neil Jaggers and attracted no fewer than 18 members. The programme was introduced by Neil, whose thoughtully compiled playlist included recordings by Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, The Modern Jazz Quartet, Buck Clayton, Ella Fitzgerald, The Art Blakey Band, Errol Garner, Cleo Laine and Miles Davis.
